00:05
all right this video we're gonna talk
00:07
about how to stretch the median nerve or
00:10
if we're getting any kind of numbness
00:11
tingling in the hand and oftentimes this
00:13
lends to folks that have carpal tunnel
00:15
or get hand numbness while being on the
00:17
computer or sleeping in funny positions
00:20
you wake up with hand numbness so we're
00:21
gonna show you a stretch on how to start
00:23
to alleviate some of that so I'm gonna
00:25
have Annie take a seat here
00:27
all right someone have to do is have a
00:29
nice it and she's gonna bring her arm
00:30
in o this position with her hand flat
00:32
like she's serving a tray of food she's
00:34
also going to depress this shoulder
00:36
blade this is gonna open up the space in
00:38
her neck and allow for that neck to
00:40
glide and move a little bit easier so
00:41
what we're gonna do is if I were to
00:44
stretch her out in this position we're
00:46
looking at the nerves that come out of
00:47
the neck come underneath the upper trap
00:50
here which is called our brachial plexus
00:51
run down the front of the arm and in o
00:54
the hand this is the often the kind of
00:55
the main culprit of any kind of carpal
00:57
tunnel syndrome or any numbness tingling
01:00
that settles in the arm the forearm the
01:02
upper arm or even in o the hand so what
01:05
we're gonna do she's in this position
01:08
shoulder blade stays down she's going to
01:11
rotate the hand towards the out extend
01:14
the fingers back and as she's doing that
01:15
she's gonna tilt the head towards and
01:18
then come back so what we're doing is
01:20
again we're gliding that nerve through
01:22
the system so if we had a string that
01:24
went from her ear to her hand we're
01:28
gonna be putting tension on the lower
01:29
part of that string and taking tension
01:31
off the top part of the string at the
01:33
neck and then come back you may feel a
01:36
little numbness tingling or burning
01:38
sensation in the hand and that's okay
01:40
you're gonna take that to about the
01:41
range of motion where I'm not provoking
01:43
any kind of pain but if you're getting a
01:44
little bit of sensation here that's okay
01:46
most folks actually won't feel much of
01:48
anything and again we're gonna perform
01:50
probably 10 to 20 repetitions and we're
01:55
gonna do this at least two or three
01:57
times a day so if you're sitting at your
01:59
desk or at the computer for a long
02:00
period of time this is something you can
02:02
even do maybe even on the hour to help
02:04
keep that neck and the hand stretched
02:06
out so it's an easy stretch to do to
02:08
alleviate some hand numbness and
02:09
tingling or if we're stuck on the
02:11
computer all day inserted to get those
02:12
carpal tunnels
02:13
it's a nice way to start to alleviate
02:15
and prevent those symptoms
